On a recent trip to Chicago to visit my granddaughter, she suggested we have brunch at Bang-Bang Pies and Biscuits to give me a chance to activate my pi(e) tastebuds in preparation for Pi Day. On this special day I will be making a Sunlight Cream Ale Sugar Cream Pie and serving as the judge at the 7th annual Pi and Lattes Day at Pilates Indy Inc. in Indianapolis. My tastebuds will be on duty!
As we arrived, the sign on the door alerted us that Bang-Bang is more than ready to celebrate the big day.
The cozy interior welcomed us in with inviting scents and lists of savory and sweet pies. I appreciated that the descriptions of each pie mentioned not only the filling but also the crust. I don’t recall seeing detailed descriptions of crusts on pie menus but here the all butter, graham cracker, chocolate graham cracker, coconut macaroon, and shortbread crusts are showcased.
People: Sunshine is the chef. She was proud to pose for a photo-op! Great pies are guaranteed when made with sunshine!

Pies. After studying the menus, we ended up having a savory pie (tomato for me, quiche for Kristen) and sharing a sweet pie (Baklava Cheesecake in a chocolate graham cracker crust, topped with pistachios and flowers.) Although there was a Possum Pie on the list (see the June 2024 Blog), I like to choose a pie that is unique and offers new flavor opportunities.
Happy Pi Day!
So very sad to miss this year. Greetings from Petra, Jordan 😘
